Discovering the Fountain of Youth

When we live long enough to reach that point where we can finally enjoy our lives, we begin to understand what it means to age well. We still have the desire, the dreams, and the spirit of our youth, but we seem to lack energy and ability.

Genetics can indeed play a significant part in how well a person ages and this fact may lead many to believe that the quality of life they may experience is out of their control. While that may be partially true, there are a few things you can do to turn the tables in your favor, genetics or not.

The Real Fountain of Youth

If you seek to find the true fountain of youth and get the most out of your life as you age, here are some things that can significantly impact your quality of life and how you feel as you approach your senior years.

Physical Activity

In many societies, the elderly are expected to spend their days sitting idle and vegetating for the remainder of their lives.

However, there’s convincing evidence that shows that choosing to remain physically active can help you feel much younger. In addition, working out regularly or engaging in some physical activity can help you find that energy and drive you may be missing.

Embracing this idea doesn’t mean you have to start running marathons or engaging in anything extreme. Still, understanding that the body was never meant to sit idle for long periods can help resist the idea of just quitting. We were created to move, and when we stop moving, that’s the point when everything starts to break down.

Watch Your Nutrition

Not only has food changed over the years, but it has also become less healthy. Today, foods are:

  • heavily processed
  • loaded with chemicals
  • and additives

By choosing real, natural foods, you can reduce the number of toxins that get into your system and exacerbate many of the health problems you may be facing.

Mental Activity

By keeping your mind active and continuing to learn new things, you stimulate your mental agility. Just because you’re older doesn’t mean that education is off-limits. The more mentally active you are, the more likely you will be motivated and driven to continue making goals and reaching your dreams.

Have a Purpose

All of us need something to work towards, a goal to reach. So rather than sitting back and relaxing, you can use this time to reinvent yourself, learn new things, or start new projects. Remember, age is not a weakness but a strength that we all can use to benefit many as long as you treat it with the respect and honor it deserves.

The Second Half Expo is Just Around the Corner

At the annual Second Half Expo, you can network with about 150 organizations showcasing their products and services to 3,000 seniors who refuse to act their age.

Join us on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City as we honor our seniors.

Continuing Your Education At Any Age

I encourage everyone to seek the gift of learning and growing all of their days. I firmly believe that we never “arrive” at some pinnacle of learning and understanding, but instead, we are to be lifelong learners at any age. The wise civil rights activist Mahatma Gandhi said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether

How the 50+ Generation Can Impact the World

We live in a unique time when people live longer and are far more active than previous generations.
